Who do I work with?

I regularly get "Oh he's a fast runner so must only work with fast runners". Lets put that to bed straight away - I do work with a number of fast runners, but lots of my clients are newer runners and those looking to build on existing performance.

In Spring '25, I worked with 30 runners racing in 6 different marathons (and Comrades) and across the spectrum of finish times between 2 hours 40 mins through to 4 hours 50. Each athletes plan has different needs and I work with each on what works best for them.

I work with runners on all race goals from 5k through to ultra marathon distance. For some, that's planning speed sessions, for other, a training bock leading to a specific race, whilst for others, it's about race nerves, pacing, nutrition and the mindset of your race.

I work with lots of people new to running. That includes running with them to build confidence in how fast to run, when to rest, what stretching and mobility they need to include.

I also work with clients purely on strength exercises focused on running.

Take a look below.

Experienced runners

Many of my coached athletes have run for a while, and want to reach a specific goal, take on a new challenge, or want the structure and support a coach brings to their training.  I bring 20+ years experience as an endurance runner with 10 years of coaching athletes to help others succeed.

I'm working with runners aiming for a 2hr 35 marathon, a female athlete aiming for a 1hr 18 half, right through to those doing a 2hr15 half, or breaking an hour for the 10k.

I don't use generic training plans - I work with each athlete on whats right for them. I work with athletes on race programming, nutrition and fuelling, strength work and the mindset of running.

Strength and mobility

Lots of my clients don't need a running plan. They do want to run stronger and without injury. I work with clients both in the gym, and at home on exercises to benefit their running, and help avoid injury.

I do 1-2-1 sessions in the gym with my clients, programming an hour focused on mobility, running focused strength and core exercises. In particular, I work with a number of older runners looking to stay running whilst maintaining the muscle mass to do so. I also focus on balance exercises given running is a 1 legged sport!

New runners and improvers

Runnings easy right? Shoes on, off you go. What about my breathing? How do I get faster? What about the pain in the shin? There's lots of reasons new or returning runners might need the support of a coach.

Most important is supporting a runner through the early "Build" stage, and then looking at how your running progresses from there. Some people have natural ability, for others, it takes time.

I can help with those starting out, doing C25K, and adding in exercises to help alongside that. I'm helping a number of runners with Run/walk strategies, enabling them to achieve their goal without injury, getting pacing right and understanding how they pace running inline with effort.

Running form analysis

Lots of runners come to me, either as they have a dominant side, they've had an injury, or conscious an aspect of their running technique seems odd.

I've worked with a number of runners on a biomechanical analysis on the treadmill using frame by frame video to help identify aspects of their running to focus on, and exercises to support that change.

Take a look at my services on how I can help you become a better runner and achieve your goal.
